Carolyn Dyck

Carolyn Jane (Rea) Dyck, 81, of Parma, Ohio passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on January 2, 1945, to Kenneth and Olive (Agnew) Rea in Meadville, PA. Survived by brother Tom (Joyce) Rea, stepbrother Dennis (Elisa) Friedl, and preceded in death by sister Margie (Tom) Davis.

Many of Carolyn’s closest friends attended Valley Forge High School and Mount Union College, her alma maters.

She is survived by John Dyck, her loving husband of 58 years, and her two children Sharon (Eric) Beach and Sean (Stacy Piszczor) Dyck.

Carolyn found endless joy in her grandchildren Libby (Jack) Beach-Johnson, Erick (Laura) Beach, Elise Beach, Hailey Fields, Isabella Fields, and dear friend Xzayviaire Gibson. All knew she was their biggest cheerleader.

A beloved math teacher at Parma High School and Columbia Station High School for many years, Carolyn will be remembered by her students for her commitment to using an overhead projector to foster a path to learning.

As a member of the Ridgewood United Methodist Church for over 70 years, she touched many lives through her faithful service to others. She held many roles, including a devoted interest in the congregation's children and a passion for volunteering at the Free Store.

For Carolyn, the line between family and friends was blurry; friends were family and family were friends. Truly invested in all her loved ones, she remembered the details of their lives and listened attentively to their stories while gathered around her dining room table, or while she taught them her special recipes. Those who knew her will always remember her as a welcoming hostess who listened and laughed with them, held their babies, or comforted them over tea and some of the best baklava ever. Carolyn enjoyed playing all kinds of card games and dining out with her many devoted friends. She took great pleasure from watching the cardinals in her bird feeder or a Hallmark movie while embroidering a beautiful pillowcase that she would ultimately gift to someone dear.

All those who were lucky enough to call her wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, colleague, and friend will remember her delightful sense of humor, the joy she found in the everyday, and the way she made them feel loved and seen.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at 12 PM, with a luncheon following at Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 6330 Ridge Rd. Parma, OH. 44129
